Mercedes -Benz will be launching their CLA-class sedan in India, on January 22nd. The car which will compete with the likes of the Audi A3 and the BMW 3-series , will also be the cheapest Sedan from the German manufacturer in the country. Most Indians will be familiar with the CLA tag , as Mercedes had previously launched their performance oriented CLA-45 AMG on July last year.
The new CLA-class will use the familiar MFA platform , which is seen in cars like the A-class, B-class , GLA-class and obviously the CLA45 AMG.But unlike the CLA-45 , this car will be stripped off everything AMG -sporting normal seats , softer suspension and regular-tuned engines.
The Exterior design is sleek and gorgeous , taking inspiration from its bigger siblings. The Interiors too are bundled with quite a lot of features.Mechanically , the same engine used in the GLA class- a 135bhp 2.2-litre diesel and a 181bhp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol is expected to continue.Transmission duties will be done by a 7-Speed dual clutch automatic gearbox, sending power to the front wheels.
While the CLA-45 AMG costs in excess of ₹70 lakhs in India , this car will be priced less than half that, at ₹27-32 lakhs.Like most of Mercedes’s entry-level cars , the CLA will also be brought here via the CBU route. However a shift to Local assembly is in sight by early 2016 , which will reduce the prices of all these cars by a good amount.
