A naked version of the popular Yamaha YZF-R25 has been spied testing on the roads of Indonesia.Unofficially titled ‘Yamaha MT-25’, following motorcycles like the MT-125 and MT-09, the quarter liter streetfighter visibly shares many similarities with the R25.The new spotting also keeps alive the possibility of a smaller capacity streetfighter based on R3 – named MT-03 / FZ-03 ? for the United States market.
The spy pictures reveal that the MT-25 shares many design elements with the R25. However aggressive single headlamp and wide upright handlebars are provided. The front has however evaded the camera.
Mechanically, the same mill that powers the R3 and R25 will continue duty on their respective naked siblings. However expect slight change in tune. The Yamaha YZF-R3 is powered by a 321cc parallel twin-cylinder engine that produces 42 PS of power and 29.6 Nm of torque , while the YZF-R25 is powered by a 250cc parallel twin producing 36 PS of power and 22.6 Nm of torque
It’s too early to comment weather the MT-25 or the MT-03 will reach India, but we are hopeful that it will make it here. The streetfighter will follow the Yamaha R3 , which is expected to launch later this year.
Stay tuned for more news and updates!
