Tata is ready to launch their all-new hatchback model “the Zica” on January 20,2016 in India. The Zica comes below the Bolt in the lower segment of the hatchback market, which sees the strong hold of Maruti’s Celerio and Hyundai i10.
Powering the car will come with two engine options, an all-new 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder Revotorq diesel motor and the 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron petrol unit that does duty in the Zest and the Bolt. The new engine pumps out a power of 67 bhp and has a peak torque of 140 Nm, the petrol engine develops 83bhp of power and a maximum torque of 114 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual gearbox and possibly an AMT unit as well.
Exterior of the car is well-designed and comes with Tata’s signature honey-comb pattern grille, large sweptback headlamps with projector units and a muscular front bumper. The car also features a wide grin-like air dam that flanks big circular fog lamps with chrome bezels. Move towards the side profile and you’ll see some sharp character lines, dual tone ORVMs with turn indicators and a set of neatly designed 10-spoke alloy wheels, meanwhile top of the line variant gets 14-inch alloy wheels with a unique design too. The rear section of the car is also very neatly designed with a well-moulded hatch, muscular bumper and wraparound tail lamps with combination lights.
Moving to interior, it’s a cheerful cabin with nice colours and fabric trim. The dashboard is elaborately laid out with good quality buttons and switches. The steering wheel is small for that sporty feel and comes with buttons for music and telephone. Of course, all these features only available in the higher variants. There is a tiny multimedia display that also works for the turn-by-turn navigation app that you need to purchase and download on your smartphone to be used.
The Zica will be the first of the two new cars that is set to be launched in India as a part of Tata’s Kite project. Expected price tag for Tata Zica is 3.9 (ex-showroom) for the base model petrol variant and a 50,000 more for the diesel variant.
