New-gen Maruti Swift 2017- styling, interior, launch, price
The exterior and interior pictures of the upcoming Maruti Swift 2017 has been leaked online. The next generation car continues to follow a similar design path but has become more aggressive, hopefully loaded with more features and better space. The car is expected to unveiled late 2016, and may reach India mid-2017.
Update: Recently the new car was spied in an almost production ready guise but with heavy camouflage. The design is very similar to earlier leaked images.
Maruti Swift 2017- Exterior Design
The design of the Maruti Swift 2017 has become more aggressive, especially with the new front grille and the chiseled out foglamp housing. Although the above picture seems to be of a 2017 Swift sport variant, and the regular variant may be a bit toned down (As shown by this very grainy picture below).
Both the Swift models gets shorter, differently styled headlamps. The grille, bumper and the foglamp housing are very aggressive on the sport variant, however doesn’t seem as interesting on the regular one. The front has an upright stance, and the curviness in design is inspired from the Baleno. LED DRLs can be seen just above the foglamps in the regular variant.
The sides of the Swift 2017 haven’t changed all that much. The A- and B-pillars are blackened out, while the C-pillar is half blacked. Following a similar trend as the Mahindra KUV100 and the Chevrolet beat, the rear door handles have been moved to the C-pillars. The alloy designs of the sport and regular variant are different, as seen from the pictures. The rear is very plain, and a large bumper and short bootlid continues to be provided.
More details from spy pictures: Even with the heavy camouflage, an almost production ready Swift can be seen in these pictures. We get a clearer look at the exterior detailing, which are as we described earlier.
The side seems to get a bolder shoulder line, sleek ORVMs and much more slanted roof. The new alloy wheels can be seen as well.
Maruti Swift 2017- Interior
The Interior is where most of the changes of the Swift 2017 are. An all black colour scheme continues to be maintained, but new detailing and inserts (in the colour of the exterior) can be seen on the new dashboard and center console. A flat bottom multi function steering wheel has been provided, with a prominent logo in the middle. The twin pod instrument dials are maintained, and is positioned either side of the large MID unit. Three circular Dials can be seen in the center, and the AC vents are also circular. A large touch screen infotainment system is provided.
Updates from the spy pictures: The interior is very similar to the leaked images. This seems to be a lower variant because of the lack of touchscreen infotainment system. The instrument dials and the larger MID unit is better visible and looks great.
Maruti Swift 2017- Engine, Features
Mechanical details are not known yet, however the car is expected to be powered by the 1.2L K-Series and 1.0L Boosterjet mills, mated to a 5-speed transmission. The 1.3 liter DDis diesel may be replaced by Suzuki’s own mill, which is under development. The Swift sport 2017 should be powered by 1.4-litre petrol engine with a 6-speed manual gearbox, and tweaked suspension, steering and brakes. The new car will be based on a lightweight platform sourced from the Baleno, which is lighter, safer and stronger.
Update form spy pictures: The battery charging indicators hints that this particular model is powered by a 90hp producing, 1.2-litre Dualjet engine mated with Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS)
The Maruti Swift 2017 could see a lot of safety features being added on, and prices may be reduced slightly to keep a healthy distance between the premium Baleno.
