The 2016 Honda BR-V is all set to be launched in India on May 5th. Marketed as an SUV, the car has MPV-ish look and will compete with the hugely popular Hyundai Creta in the segment.

The  Honda BR-V was developed in Thailand and will be locally produced for Indian market. The name BR-V stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle, and the car as a whole looks great. It is based on the Mobilio/Brio platform measuring 4,455mm in length, 1,735mm in width, 1,666mm and has class leading ground clearance of 210mm.  The design is familiar, and the front gets wide chrome grille with prominent Honda logo, projector headlamps, a large air dam, round fog lamps and a sporty bumper. Sides are long (very noticeable with all the compact SUVs around) and the sporty nature is enhanced by prominent roof rails, large alloy wheels and black body cladding that runs through its length.

The rear looks great too and gets a curved design with wraparound taillamps and lower placed number plate holder.

The interior share similarity with many existing Honda cars but still provides a fresh upmarket feel. The car is a 7 seater- Honda claiming class leading space with the long 2,662mm wheelbase. The boot is 223-litres and can be increased to up to 691 litres by folding the third row of seats.

Talking about the features, The Honda BR-V come with dual airbags as standard across all variants of the car. The top-end trim is fully loaded and gets Bluetooth telephony, audio streaming, push button start, automatic climate control, steering-mounted audio buttons, anti-lock braking system, etc.

The new car will be powered by two mills -1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel, sending power to the front wheels.  The petrol produces 118bhp at 6,600rpm and 145Nm of torque at 4,600rpm while the diesel delivers 98.6bhp at 3,600rpm against 200Nm. The car also comes in choice of two transmission options- 6-speed manual and CVT automatic with paddle shifters (first in segment).
