Volkswagen is all set to launch the 3-door Polo GTI in India this year and prior to this, the car has been spotted in Pune completely uncamouflaged. Though the German manufacturer sells a 5-door version of the car globally, it is not expected to reach the country initially.
On launch the Volkswagen Polo GTI will be priced between 17-20 Lakh INR- being brought here as a completely built unit (CBU). The car will be ideal for people looking for ‘performance’ in between a budget hot hatch like the Punto Abarth and more premium ones like the Mini Cooper S or Abarth 595 Competizione.
The biggest thing to look out for is definitely under the hood. The Polo GTI gets a 1.8-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers massive 189 hp & 250 Nm of torque. All that power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. 0-100 km/h is reached in quick 6.7 seconds and the car has a top speed of 236 km/h.
The Volkwagen Polo GTI looks very much like the Polo but gets a sportier design with more aerodynamic bumper, LED daytime running lights, red highlight on the honeycomb grille, Larger 17-inch alloy wheels with beefier 215/40 rubber, twin exhausts and a sunroof.
On the Inside the car gets a premium dashboard with large infotainment screen, three-spoke GTI flat-bottomed steering wheel, aluminium pedals, ‘Jacara’ upholstery, and red contrast stitching.
The Volkswagen Polo GTI was earlier showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, Delhi.
