Tama Racemo – What is it?
The Tamo Racemo is a sports car concept from Tata’s Future mobility division and the platform will be used to build four varied pillars. First of which is a virtual version (similar to the one in the images) that will be inducted into Microsoft’s Forza Horizon 3- the first Indian car to do so. However, in 2018 we will see the real deal coming out in the form of a street and race car, named Racemo and Racemo+ respectively. The fourth pillar is a digital reality experiential plan to introduce the car to non-owners.
Tama Racemo Exterior
The new Racimo is in no way is a cute little sports car, instead, it is a very aggressive machine and quite unlike any sportscar on the road. We like it how Tata has kept the design original and though it’s a concept, the 2018 production version will not be much removed in terms of styling.
Its front fascia is low slung and gets a grille similar to the one we saw on the C-Cube while at the sides, aggressive body panel and long ORVM can be seen. The car’s rear is unique with circular LED taillights, diffuser and a large exhaust port.
Length: 3835 mm
Tama Racemo Interior
The Racemo’s cabin is sporty but is currently not fit for a street car at the moment. We will see features like proper Airconditioning and infotainment system being added once the car enters production. However, the current interior might be retained in the sports model.
Tama Racemo Specs
The Tata Racemo is built on a MOFlex Multi-Material Sandwich (MMS) structure and get many sporty features. It is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron aluminium engine that produces 186 bhp and it has 210 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-Speed AMT with paddle shift.
0-100 kmph – Under 6 seconds
Tamo Racemo Price and launch date
Price of the Tamo Racemo will hover around the Rs. 25 lakh range (that is $ 37200), which will make it the most affordable sportscar in India, below DC’s Avanti.
The car’s production version might be seen at the 2018 Auto Expo. Its launch will take place thereafter. (Rumour-Only 250 units of the car will be made available)
Will we able to see the same craze for small affordable sportscars which once swept through Europe and America, in India? Only time will tell.
Tata has lifted wraps off their all new sub-brand ‘Tamo’ which it sees as a future mobility solution. The new brand will blend innovation, future technology and premium styling to carve its own niche in Tata’s huge portfolio, that include brands like the Range Rover and Jaguar. They will debut their first car, internally known as the Futura, at the 2017 Geneva Motorshow on March 7.
Tamo Futuro Design, Exterior
The Futura will debut as a concept in Geneva and only details we have on its exterior is its silhouette through the wrap. What we see is a small affordable sportscar like the Opel Speedster, Lotus Eclipse or the Alpha Romeo 12C (are we going overboard?). Let’s hope its styling lives up to our expectation or any Indian for that matter.
Tata is definitely on the right track with the Tamo Futura- A 2-door, mid-engine, lightweight sports car. The example shown here seems to be a hard top but a spyder version will be much appreciated. Holding everything together is a chassis from legendary designer Marcello Gandini (so we hear).
Tata is not new to designing Sportscars either. Apart from owning Jaguar and many respectable design houses, they had also showcased a sportscar in 2 versions- the Aria roadster and its coupe, at Geneva in the beginning of this century.
Tamo Futuro Interior
We don’t have a good look at the interior yet but it should not disappoint. They will bring all their expertise here and could even take inspiration from some of their sister brands.
Tamo Futuro Engine, Transmission, Performance
The Futuro is rightly a mid-engine sportscar but the power train as such may disappoint. We are expecting to see an 180hp, 1.2 Revotron engine, which is nothing to boast to your friends. However, its 800 kg kerb weight should give you some decent performance.
A mix composite plastic materials and Aluminium will be used on the car.
