What’s new with the 2018 Ford Explorer?
The Ford Explorer will receive minor cosmetic updates and additional features for its 2018 model year. This facelift comes 2 years in to the SUV’s last major update, in 2016.
2018 Ford Explorer- Design changes & new features
Ford hasn’t meddled with the ‘squared-off’ look of the current generation Explorer but the 2018 model does get cosmetic updates. For example, there’s a redesigned grille and new foglamp assembly up front, and five new alloy wheel choices across its line-up. The popular sports trim gets new quad exhaust tips as well.
Four new colors options are available, they include:
- Cinnamon glaze
- Burgundy velvet tinted clearcoat
- Platinum dune tricoat
- Blue metallic
Cabin design remains unchanged but new features have been made available. An optional 4G LTE connection with Wi-Fi hotspot can connect up to 10 devices, up to 50 feet away. As a result, the FordPass app, which enables remote start, lock, unlock and locate, can also be used on the new Explorer.
Safety features have been unified for the XLT, Limited, and Sport trim levels, under a common ‘Safe and Smart’ package. This package incorporates adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert and more. Price for the bundle is not known but it does come as standard on the Platinum model.
