It’s been two years since Ferrari released their 488 GTB and naturally, we all know what’s coming next. However, this time around, instead of going for names like the Scuderia or Speciale, they have decided to adopt something very exciting from the past- GTO (Source-AutoCar).
The new Ferrari 488 GTO is expected to release next year and will follow the lines of legends like the 288 GTO, 250 GTO and the 599 GTO.
Here are things you need to know:
Ferrari 488 GTO – What to expect
What makes the 488 GTO ‘special’ when Ferrari had very similar idea with the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia, and 458 Speciale, is that the Italian manufacturer wouldn’t use the name if the car is not absolutely worthy. The car will rival the yet to be released Porsche 911 GT2, and will be very close in terms of power to the new Mclaren 720S.
The Ferrari 488 GTO will share basic design with the 488 GTB but lightweight components and extreme aero additions will be brought in. At the front, the airdam will be larger and carbon fibre blade will also be provided. Ferrari’s signature ‘performance’ twin stripes are ensured.
Similar cooling and aero enhancements will be present at the rear, which should include wider spoiler, larger diffuse and bigger vents for channeling air from the engine bay.
An evolution of Ferrari 458 Speciale’s Side Slip Angle Control (SSC) system should also be seen on the GTO, which provides better torque management and in essence, control a number drive dynamics.
Along with the weight saving measures on the outside, the interior will be stripped down to bare necessities, essentially bringing the weight under 3000 pounds. This, along with the rumoured 700 hp mill would make for a very deadly combination.
Ferrari 488 GTO Engine, Specs
Powering the 488 GTO will be the same 3.9-liter biturbo V8, but now rumoured to produce nearly 700 hp of power and 560 pound-feet (760 Nm) of torque. The car is expected to do 0-60 mph in 2.7 seconds (down from the GTB’s flat 3), inching very close to the the 2.4 seconds of the million dollar hyper car- the LaFerrari.

Ferrari 488 GTO price, release date, availability
The new Ferrari 488 GTO will command a heavy premium over the GTB and will only be available in limited numbers (possibly 488). The car will reach dealerships across the world in 2018.
The 458 speciale in its absolute bare form commanded more than £30,000 over the 458 Italia. Considering that the 488 GTB costs £183,984, we are expecting the GTO version to have a much bigger difference.
|Price in UK||£225,000|
Similar pricing will be expected in models coming to USA as well and it should command not less than $50,000 premium.
