Benelli’s single cylinder Duke 390 Competitor coming in 2018
India’s entry-level twin cylinder motorcycle segment isn’t exactly a crowd puller. It has some capable machines, including the Ninja 300 and the recently launched Benelli 302R, but sales are hard to come by. On the contrary, the single cylinder performance segment has been seeing some good number of bikes (&sales), especially after the massive success of the Duke twins. For Italian brand Benelli, this is a very lucrative segment and something that they are not just willing to give a cold shoulder to.
If reports are to be believed, Benelli might be working on a new India-specific motorcycle to directly compete with Duke 390. We are thrilled by these developments as it could finally mean a motorcycle worthy of competing with the latter (that is, if BMW doesn’t bring out the G310R first). It’s not that the Duke 390 isn’t perfect or anything but unrivalled reign is just plain boring.
Benelli has plans to launch three new motorcycles in india, including the above mentioned one. The Benelli TRK502 and Leoncino are the other two.

Benelli’s new Duke 390 competitors- What to expect
Like the Duke 390, Benelli’s offering will be a performance-naked powered by an engine of 300-400cc capacity. In order to keep their portfolio visually distinct, its design will not be similar to the TNT300. Instead, the manufacturer is likely to take inspiration from the upcoming TNT750.
Even though the new bike’s engine is of higher capacity, it is unlikely that the bike will produce power beyond the 37.73 bhp of the TNT300. This makes it similar to the 33.6bhp producing BMW G310R. While BMW tries to make up for this deficit with superior brand power, Benelli could look at other things like beautiful Italian design and throty exhaust note. Both the bike should however be priced at a premium (above Rs. 2 lakhs).
Benelli’s new Duke 390 price and launch date
As I said, Benelli’s offering, like the G310R should be be priced higher than similar spec-ed competition. The bike will debut at the 2018 Auto Expo, Delhi and go on sale the same year.
