Low spec variant of Mahindra Mojo spotted
A new variant of the Mahindra Mojo with lesser specs has been spied testing in Lonavala. Another one of the same bike was also spotted recently, indicating strong possibilty of its launch in India.
Mahindra Mojo base variant spotted- Design, Changes
After gaining respectable sales across limited cities it was launched, the Mahindra Mojo could soon be available in a lower-spec, base variant. This model is expected to be sold throughout India.
This seems to be a good move from Mahindra, especially since the Mojo is gaining lots of attention from the general public. The current model is placed in a very competitive segment and with newer bikes coming in, modest sales are best they could hope for. A lower priced variant on the other hand could be a complete game changer.
The new Mojo loses its signature twin exhasut set-up for a more conventional one. Though the first test mule was spotted with telescopic front suspension, the most recent one was seen with USD forks. Its tyres seem to be smaller, 140-section unit, and for cost-cuttiing reasons couldn’t be the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II.
Mahindra Mojo base variant spotted- Engine, Specs
The current Mahindra Mojo 295 cc single cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled, fuel injected mill producing 27 PS of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 30 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Rumour has it that Mahindra is planning to adopt Carburation on the new variant, thereby reducing cost. Also power and torque will be reduced as well.
Mahindra Mojo base variant spotted- Launch date, Price
All these changes will help the new model to push much below Rs.1.5 lakhs in pricing. This is in territory of KTM’ Duke 200, which while better equipped, lacks the comfort that the Mojo provides. Mahindra could even price it near Yamaha’s FZ25.
There no confirmation on when the bike will be launched in India. There was a significant delay between the first and second test mules, so the 2018 Auto Expo looks like a good bet. However, Mahindra could even launch it by this festive season as the bike looks nearly complete (and in it final leg of testing).
More details are expected to come in soon.
