New Maruti Suzuki Jimny (/Gypsy) – Price, launch, specification
The 4th generation Maruti Suzuki Jimny has been revealed in its entirety. The Japanese manufacturer has decided to go with a boxy-retro design for their new SUV, which at least from the leaked images doesn’t look half-bad. There are reports that the car will be manufactured in India and then exported to global markets. So a re-badged Gypsy is also not out of the question.
The Suzuki Jimny is currently in its third generation and has a legacy spanning back to the 70s. We in India are more familiar with its 2nd generation, long wheelbase version- The Gypsy, which is still used in the Indian army and some off-roading events.
The current generation car has been around since 1998 and dealers across Europe are putting the pressure on Suzuki to build a new one. With manufacturing to taking place in India, it is easy for Maruti to introduce the SUV here at an affordable price tag.
Suzuki Jimny Exterior & Interior
The new Jimny gets a boxy front fascia fit with circular headlamps, 5-slot vertical grille and a rugged bumper. Sides are square, and large wheel arches with complimenting big tyres can be seen. Its rear is equally rugged with taillight placed in the bumper and a mounted spare wheel.
Interior is contemporary and takes inspiration from Suzuki’s newer breed of cars including the Ignis and the Swift. There are circular air-con vents at the sides while they are rectangular at the centre. The touchscreen infotainment system is sufficiently big and easily accessible. The car will continue with the 3-door design, seen on the previous generation model.
Suzuki Jimny engine and specification
Powering the Maruti Suzuki Jimny will be a 1.0 liter boosterjet petrol mill, while globally a 1.4 liter unit might be provided. Other small petrol engine options are also to be expected. The engines will be mated to a manual as well as a new automatic transmission.
Though some markets might get diesel engine options, they have not been confirmed yet.
