The current Honda Goldwing came out sixteen years ago and since then it has remained relatively unchanged. There have not been any major news concerning the bike for the last six years as well. Now though, an heavily upgraded 2018 model has been revealed at a special event in Santa Barbara, California. The motorcycle was also showcased at the ongoing Tokyo Motorshow.

2018 Honda Gold wing design, cockpit & changes
The new Gold wing gets an updated design which is sharper and more aggressive that its predecessor. It also gets new LED headlamps and a digital instrument console. The bike will be available in two variants- Goldwing and Goldwing Tour. The former doesn’t come with a top box, rear audio speakers, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), electric damping-adjust, center stand, and heated grips. The standard variant also lacks ABS and comes with a shorter windscreen.
The bike’s cockpit still holds a lot of switches and buttons but they are more civilised now. Its console almost goes all-digital and houses a large (7-inch) central display flanked by an analogue speedometer and tachometer, and two other smaller displays. The array of 4-way switches, colour coded buttons, central joystick and more, are responsible for controlling its expanded list of features. These include audio, navigation, Bluetooth, cruise control, riding modes (Tour, Sport, Economy, Rain) and heated grips.
The 2018 Gold wing has also ditched the telescopic forks for a double wishbone at the front. Its handlebars connect to a semi-active suspension unit featuring a single spring-shock, and help to improve steering precision and lean angles while also eliminating fork dive and flex. This set-up also reduces weight on the front. The rear gets a Pro-Link Showa monoshock.
Braking is done by dual 320 mm discs with Nissin radial calipers at front, and a single 316 mm disc at rear.
2018 Honda Gold wing engine & transmission
The new Honda Goldwing seems to be powered by the same 1.8-liter, 12-valve flat-six cylinder engine. However, the manufacturer has heavily upgraded it to be lighter, compact and more fuel efficient.
Both the variants are available with either a new six-speed manual transmission or Honda’s next-generation seven-speed automatic Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) transmission.
Unconfirmed reports also claim that a four-cylinder hybrid could widen the lineup. This mill, if launched, will do duty on base variants (F4B and F4C). However, nothing about these variants were discussed during the revelation ceremony.
