The new variants don’t change much in terms of design which is obvious as it is the bike’s best selling point. However they do get much needed mechanical changes including addition of a rear disc brake. The swingarm has also changed, and seems to be sourced from the Thunderbird. The stealth black Classic 500 is black throughout and even its exhaust gets black colour. The Gun grey Classic 350 on the other hand gets a contrasting coloured seat and silver coloured exhaust canister.
Power for the Classic 350 come from a 346cc, single-cylinder, carbureted, air-cooled Unit Construction Engine (UCE) that produces 19.8 BHP @ 5,250 rpm and a 28 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. The Classic 500 uses a bigger 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with electronic fuel injection. It produces 27.2 BHP @ 5,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 41.3 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Transmission duties on both bikes are done by a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox.
The Royal Enfield Classic series is the manufacturer’s biggest cash cow and sells in good numbers throughout India. To keep the sale going, the manufacturer had recently launched the ‘Redditch’ series for the Classic 350.
