2019 Volkswagen T Cross spied testing – Looks Bland
The 2019 Volkswagen T Cross has been spied cold weather testing in Finland. It was covered in camouflage at the front and rear, and was seen on top of ice in chilling conditions.
Here are more details:
The VW T-Cross is based on the manufacturer’s popular MQB platform, which also underpins cars like the Polo, Seat Arona and more. It does, however, look slightly larger than the Polo.
Volkswagen had showcased a T-Cross Breeze concept in 2016 and the production version will adopt some of its striking design cues. However, unlike the concept, a proper roof will be provided. Also, the headlights don’t look as sleek, nor the bumper as dramatic as the concept. The design looks bland and familiar, but hopefully, it will look better when the camouflage comes off.
Familiar Volkswagen design can be seen on the front fascia. It gets a wide grille, flanked by normal-looking headlamps. There’s cladding though out the body and the SUV’s sides are uncamouflaged. The rear is slightly angular and small LED headlights are visible beneath the camo. Roof rails are there to accentuate the crossover feel.
Volkswagen is likely to provide bright colours and dual-tone shade, which are all the rage in today’s crossover market.
On the inside, its design, quality, fit and finish should all be similar to that of the Polo.
There’s no confirmation as to what powers the new T-Cross. It’s however safe to assume that most of the Polo’s engine options will be provided. These include small four cylinder mills to the Polo GTI’s 2.0L turbo unit. Its 6-speed transmission will send power to the front wheels as stand but an AWD variant could be provided as an option.
2019 Volkswagen T Cross price, competitors and release date
The car will officially release sometime next year.
New T-Cross India
Volkswagen doesn’t have a good production in India’s lower SUV segment and the T-Cross could fill that spot effectively. The segment is growing each year and recently saw the addition of Nissan Captur. It already has cars like the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
