The 2014 Karizma R has been officially launched in India and the bike is currently open for bookings . We were at a Local Hero Dealership in Kerala to check out the new Karizma R . This is our initial impression of the bike . The detailed review will be posted soon .
We all have grown up seeing the old Hero Karizma R . The bike was first launched in 2003 which was almost 11 years ago , The time sure does fly!. But the great thing about the old-gen Karizma R was that even after all these years, the bike still doesn’t seize to impress. Even now , It has the same charm that it had since inception . Now looking at the 2014 Karizma R we notice that the bike doesn’t seem to have much similarities with the old-gen Karizma R . Every bit of fairing seems to have been taken off from the old-gen Karizma R and fitted with new ones , in the 2014 version . Its is huge make over for sure , but is it the most beautiful ? Na .
Lets start with the front , The bike gets a completely new design made out of the Hero-EBR partnership and is surely nothing like any bike currently on Indian roads . This is actually a good thing for all those people who want a little attention on road . The front gets vertically placed Dual LED Headlamps with turn indicators on either side . The Instrument console remains virtually same , however a side-stand indicator has been added . A new set of Clip-on Handlebars have been added to the bike as well . However one thing that you would immediately notice would be the absence of the Engine Kill switch, Why is this technology so hard to incorporate on a bike ! I don’t know lets ask Honda , oh wait!
Nothing much to boast on the sides of this bike however the absence of the rear monoshock is visible .The bike gets Telscopic shock absorbers up front and 5 way adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear . The engine is uncovered and bike is air cooled . The Frame is of diamond type . The bike gets Disc brakes at the front but only gets Drum at the rear . Talking about the rear , it is for me the best part of the bike . It has the tapering design similar to the Yamaha R15 , and the 120/80 rear tires makes for a eye full . The number plate holder along with the rear light and the led indicators , protrude outwards and complete the rear. The seating position has been a bit lowered in the new Karizma and mostly the user claims good comfort and stability .
So we have left the best part for last , The Engine and Performance . The New 2014 Karizma R will get a 223cc Single Cylinder 4 stroke SOHC powertrain which produces 19.2 bhp at 7500 rpm and 19.35 Nm of torqu at 6000 rpm , boasting of a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds .The Engine is carburated, not fuel injected like the ZMR .The bike has a top speed of 126 kmph and a user claimed mileage close to 45 kmph* . The New Karizma R is priced at 98,000 INR **( on road – Cochin )
The Karizma R does look a good choice for all the customers who need a Value for money motorcycle providing Decent performance , comfort and style.
