Yamaha R15 V2 vs Honda CBR 150r vs CBR 250r

After continuously using the Yamaha R15 V2 and the Honda CBR 150r for almost 3 months now , I’ve decided to put my entire experiance in to words. This is one of the most asked question even now and rightly so . Both the bikes seem to have their own good and bad , making it virtually impossible to point out a clear winner and hence I won’t be doing so . Instead I will try to guide you to choose a bike that best suits you .

( for our readers outside India , Please do skip this article as I may use words like performance, cornering etc while describing the bikes , which may seem awkward or funny to you . You could always read our reviews on the bigger bikes .)

For this comparison I will be using a 2013 model Candy palm Green Honda CBR 150r and a 2014 model Yamaha R15 v2 invincible black. The shoot out was done en-route to Thattekd Bird Sanctuary in the Ernakulum district, Kerala .

Though individual preferences do vary , overall the Yamaha R15 looks much more sportier than the CBR 150r . That doesn’t mean the CBR looks bad , however It seems the R15 has stayed true to the ‘Yamaha R’ tag and the resemblance with its bigger sibling, the Yamaha R6 can easily be made out . The CBR 150r is based on the 250r, which is seldom associated with sporty looks . Further the CBR 150r looks more similar to the Honda VFR1200f and hence doesn’t do justice to its ‘CBR’ tag either. May be thats why Honda brought out the new CBR 300r (resembling the fireblade) and is in making of a dual headlamp version of the CBR 150r.

Coming to the the front portion which holds the instrument console , both the bikes have pretty basic consoles and nothing out of the ordinary . However the CBR 150r does lack an Engine kill switch and a pass light , which makes it look ‘primitive’!

Both the bikes are powered by 150cc* Single Cylinder , 4 Stroke Engines . The Bikes are liquid cooled and both have 4 valves. However the CBR 150r has a Double overhead camshaft (DOHC) while the Yamaha R15 v2 has Single Overhead camshaft (SOHC) . The DOHC engine is better than the SOHC , but SOHC ones have better low end torque . The CBR 150r produces slightly better power than the Yamaha R15 , but its maximum power is only reached at 10500rpm , whereas the power of R15 V2 is readily available at 8500rpm . The Yamaha R15 V2 also provide much better Torque of 15 Nm . Both the bikes have six-speed transmission

The suspension are almost similar and both the bikes feature Telescopic front forks and rear monoshocks .The suspension of the R15 is much more stiffer than that of the CBR .
