There’s been a lot going on in India’s 150-160cc segment over the last few months . All the major manufacturers have brought out their motorcycles or have updated their existing motorcycles so as to capture every bit of India’s most promising motorcycle segment . With chief competitors like Yamaha and Suzuki bringing out their bikes , Honda too is planning to add their share in to the segment. Though there had been speculations of the launch of a 150cc bike in September , it is now heard that the plans have been postponed. We sure do hope that the added time yields better results.
The 150cc segment is not exactly Honda’s strong point at the moment , where only their CB unicorn had succeeded . The new bike is expected to replace the CB Trigger which has not lived up to Honda’s expectation in India. What Honda really need is an aggressive bike in the segment (below the 1 lakh price range)which would catapult the youth to their side. This is something that Yamaha and Bajaj had been doing for some time now and is what Suzuki aims to do through their recently launched Gixxer. The new Honda 160cc should be priced close to the Yamaha Fz’s .
There are news going around that the new 160cc will be based on the Honda CX01 concept showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo . If this turns out to be true , there’s surely good times ahead for the brand in India.
