Toyota Kirloskar Motors has just launched their 2015 Fortuner and Innova in India. The 2015 Fortuner gets new automatic 4×4 and 2.5 liter variants added to it , while the Innova gets nothing impressive to boast about. However , Toyota has still manged to increase the prices of both the vehicles , blaming the excise duty cuts. This brings the starting price of the Fortuner at Rs. 24.17 lakhs , while that of the Innova is ₹10.51 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)
Lets start with the Innova. With prices ranging form ₹10.51-₹15.80 lakhs, The Toyota Innova is undoubtedly the most overpriced MPV in India. But with over a decade of experience in the Indian market , and enjoying a very loyal fan-base ,the Innova still continues to tick the sales for Toyota.
The Innova is Toyota’s most successful car in India , and keeping it overpriced means that the manufacturer can level out any losses that they may have to face.
The changes on the 2015 Innova are mostly cosmetic. However , Toyota has standardized dual-front airbags and ABS for all variants, which gives some relief in the safety department. On the exterior , the car now sports new dual tone black-grey Alloys , while the interior now comes with wood finished steering wheel and newly designed leather upholstery. An Oak colored interior trim is also on offer.
COMPETITOR : 2015 Ford Endeavour
The Fortuner is another one of Toyota’s success stories in India , selling off more cars in the segment than all competitors combined.Though the 2015 Fortuner costs almost 2 Lakhs more than its predecessor , we don’t think this factor will make a big dent on Toyota’s sales.
The new Fortuner has been added with a 3.0L 4×4 automatic and a 2.5L RWD Diesel options. Though an all-wheel drive manual was on offer previously , Toyota has decided to update it by providing a 5-speed automatic box. This will be the top-end variant , and will set you back by ₹26.59 lakhs ( ex-showroom, Delhi).
The 2.5 liter diesel will be the base variant, and will be available in both automatic and manual transmissions. However , All-wheel drive option has not been provided in this variant. The 2494cc, 4-cylinder powertrain can churn out a maximum of 144 PS of power and 343 Nm of torque. But even with the lower capacity , the 2.5L Fortuner is still costly in comparison , mainly because of the TRD( Toyota Racing Development) kit, that comes as standard.
In addition , The 2015 Fortuner gets standard dual-front airbags for all its variants, smoked head and taillamps .The exterior gets new 17″ dark grey alloy wheels and a silver Bezel surrounding the foglamp housing. On the interior , The car gets an all-black colour scheme with dark-wooden inserts, touchscreen navigation and infotainment system along with voice recognition.
Stay tuned for more update!
