It is no secret that Ford India is working on the new-generation Ford Figo, which was initially rumored to be set for a mid-2015 launch . However,we have received news that Ford has stopped production of their current generation Figo ,which was launched way back in 2010.This hints at a possible launch of the new Figo in the coming months , as soon as the current stock expires.
The Ford Figo is one the most successful American cars to have ever launched in India and was averaging about 1500 units per month, in the initial weeks of 2014.But these figures dropped drastically to about 150 units per month in the later half of the year. This may have caused the ‘sooner rather than later’ approach by Ford. The new 2015 figo will be manufactured in Sanand,Gujarat , instead of Ford’s Tamil Nadu facility. The first production run should start by February.
The new Ford figo has got charming looks and it is already on sale in the international market , under the ‘ka’ monicker. The interior of the new figo takes inspiration from cars like the fiesta and Ecosport, and an overall improvement in cabin quality is expected. The car is expected to address all short comings of the previous model , offering better ride quality and stability.
Under the hood , The 2015 Ford figo will come with a 1.5-litre diesel and 1.0-litre turbocharged ecoboost petrol mills. With high level of localisation , the prices should be on par with competition.
Ford will be hoping to enjoy similar success of the Ecosport with this new hatchback .With lots of improvement and upgrades on offer, it could go on to just that.
