The very first picture of the rumored 410cc Adventure-Tourer from Royal Enfield has been clicked in Chennai. The particular segment has been seeing good development in recent months, with bikes of all price range being introduced (Read: Triumph, Bajaj). The Chennai based manufacturer had earlier trademarked the name ‘Himalayan’, and knowing the specific nature of the spotted test mule, this should indeed be the upcoming motorcycle’s name. RE is also heard to be working on a 750cc twin, but its whereabouts are not known at the moment.
Looking at the picture, there seem to be drastic design changes from the existing Royal Enfield motorcycles, some of which are completely new to the manufacturer. The front however retains similarities with existing bikes such as the Continental GT, and even the rake angle seems to be same. In order to provide better suspension travel, for the ‘monoshock’ unit, the rear has been lifted by a good amount. Braking duties are done by disc at the front and rear.
Powering the bike is a new 400+cc mill (rumored), and the completely different engine unit is visible in the spy shot. The bike is still in its initial stage of development, and it will be interesting to see how the final product turns out.
