We all remember how hideous the Ducati Panigale looked after getting the long exhaust treatment for the Japanese market. Now it seems that the strict sound norms in the country are ruining motorcycles from other manufacturers as well, the next in line being Yamaha YZF-R1.
Pictures of the Japanese version has been released, and you can clearly see the longer end can. The same will be provided on all the Japanese R1s, and even the R1Ms .The exhaust is manufactured by Akrapovic and though not nearly as bad as the ones on the Panigale, it’s still unattractive compared to the R1s we get here in India.
Yamaha’s biggest dealer-Presto corporation will be taking care of fitting the exhausts when the bike is imported in to the country. Why import to a home market? Some very specific norms prevailing in the Japanese market means that the Yamaha R1 has to be exported and then re-imported in to the country, if it has to maintain the 200 PS maximum power rating. For the same reason, the new R1 cannot not be seen listed under Yamaha Japan’s official website, instead they are placed under presto-corporation’s dealership page.
