Volkswagen has launched the much-awaited new Beetle in India at a price tag of Rs 28.73 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The car has retained its original design even though the new model has been heavily reworked. The booking for the Beetle had already started in mid-November.
The Beetle is powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol engine which develops a power of 148 PS and has a torque of 25.5 kgm . Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The four-link independent rear suspension gives the car a better stability on Indian road conditions.
The new car from Volkswagen for India is offered only in one fully loaded variant and is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, bi-xenon headlamps, leather interiors, mood lighting and chrome packages for the exterior and interior as standard. Other comfort and convenience features include dual zone climate control, an eight-speaker audio system with aux, SUB and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control along with automatic headlamps,rain sensing wipers, 16-inch alloy wheels, KESSY – key less access and push button start.
The new Beetle is longer and wider as compared to its predecessor which indicates a sufficient leg room at interior. With body coloured interior panels on the dashboard gives it a nice cool appeal. the steering, center console and the instrumentation are all modernized.
For the safety, the new Beetle comes equipped with 6 Airbags, ESP, ABS as standard fitment, hill hold assist to keep the car from rolling back when starting on hilly terrain and a brake pad wear indicator. As promised earlier Volkswagen made the interiors with leather finish and chrome packages for the interior and exterior. There will be 4 body colours on sale – Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red and Blue Silk.
The Beetle will be go up against the likes of the Mini Cooper 3-door,the Mercedes A-Class, the BMW 1-Series and the Fiat 500 Abarth.
