We all saw this coming and now it’s official. The Tata Bolt Sport won’t be launched in India, instead the Indian manufacturer is looking at their popular Tiago for entering the performance hot hatch space.

Sales viability is the main reason why the car has been shelved and it is very easy to see why they have opted to go with the Tiago instead. When the standard Bolt model managed to sell close to 8000 units in the last fiscal year (14-15), the Tiago pulled in more than twice that number in the last two months alone.

The car is still in nascent stages of development and it might take some time before we can see a production version.

The standard Tiago model is priced very affordably in the market and we are expecting the same to be in place for the sport variant.

Based on the variant chosen, something just below 7 lakhs is also not out of question.

Tata Tiago Sport Engine, Specification

The Tiago sport won’t get the 120 bhp producing, 1.2-litre, four-cylinder Revotron petrol engine, which was seen on the Bolt Sport. Instead the upcoming Tata Nexon’s turbocharged, 1.2, three-cylinder motor would be used. Power may be bumped up to commendable 120 bhp using bigger turbo and different electronics.

The Tiago sport is expected to feature many ‘sport’ enhancements, including new bumper, larger intakes, body kit, spoiler, revised front grille and larger alloy wheels.

It would be unlike the Tiago Aktiv showcased at the Auto Expo 2016, which had more crossover-ish cosmetic elements.

Like most cars in the segment, an all-black interior, sport seats with contrasting stitching and other similar elements are to be expected. However, at the moment not much about the car is known.
