The new generation VW Passat is all set for launch in India in the coming months. It will reach the country via CKD route and will receive a diesel as well as hybrid powertrain.
The new move comes after a very healthy demand for full sized sedans in India. Though the last generation Passat enjoyed good sales initially, its sales began to dip with newer competition and a general dearth in popularity of the segment.
The car gets:
-VW’s newer design language
-Diesel & Petrol-Electric powertrain
-High quality cabin & improved space
|Price||Rs. 25-30 lakhs|
|Mileage (GTE)||59.94 kmpl|
New Volkswagen Passat exterior & Interior
The new Passat looks better than its predecessor thanks partially to its bolder front fascia. Wide three-slat chrome grille flanked by pentagonal-shaped LED headlamps with LED DRLs is provided, along with a more stylish bumper. The sides & rear adhere to VW’s newer design language and prominent character lines, updated taillights and new bumper can be seen. The car is built on VW’s MQB platform.
Interior will be more premium and should get a dual tone/all black colour scheme. Large MID display, sporty flat bottom steering wheel, a new MIB II infotainment system with USB, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility etc. will be part of the package. Though the new Passat is marginally smaller than the old car, Volkswagen claims that cabin space has improved.
New Volkswagen Passat Engine, Transmission
The 2017 Passat is likely to receive two engine options. First one is a new EA288, 2.0-litre diesel mill, which also features in the Skoda Octavia and Audi A3. This engine will be mated to a 6-speed DSG unit as standard.
The second one is a (1.8L) petrol-electric hybrid producing 215 bhp (combined), badged as a GTE variant. The variant has a whopping mileage of 59 kmpl.
