Maruti has just launched their new Dzire in India for a price starting from Rs. 5.45 lakhs. It’s definitely better than before but is it the best car in the price segment? To answer this, we’d have to look at car on top of the segment- The Baleno. This premium hatchback was launched last year as a competitor to then segment topping Hyundai Elite i20.
Here’s our short comparison:
Other comparison- Dzire vs Tigor vs Xcent 2017
2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Baleno – Design
We favour small, sporty hatchbacks over compact sedans, so this may feel a bit biased. The Baleno has been around for some time now but it has in no way lost its charm. The Dzire’s design has improved a lot, but it still doesn’t emanate the youthful glow of the Baleno.
However, now Maruti has two equally potent cars in the price segment, each catering to different kinds of people- Baleno is youth centric while the Dzire will appeal to the average family guy.
Winner- It’s hard to pick, but as we told earlier, we go with the Baleno
2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Baleno – Interior
The Dzire’s updated interior really shines when compared to the Baleno. The hatchback adopts an all-black interior scheme while the Dzire has a premium beige-black interior. Also, features like the flat bottom steering wheel and faux wooden inlays bring better character to the sedan. The Dzire also gets Android Auto and Apple Carplay connectivity, complementing its 7” touchscreen infotainment system.
Rear passengers will be better off on the Dzire, not only because of the better leg-headroom, but also because it offers features like rear AC vents and charging ports. Boot space is also better on the Dzire.
Winner- New Dzire
2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Baleno- Engine, Transmission, Mileage
Both cars offer similar engine options, so there’s not much to differentiate there. However, AMT for Baleno is only available in its petrol models while both petrol and Diesel variants get AGS (AMT) on the Dzire.
Mileage is slightly higher for the new Dzire but it’s unlikely make any noticeable real world difference.

|Petrol||22 KMPL||21.4 KMPL|
Winner- New Dzire
2017 Maruti Dzire vs Maruti Baleno price and availability
Some variants of the Baleno are priced as much as Rs. 50,000 cheaper than the Dzire, which gives it a definite advantage. However the Baleno is only available via Nexa while the Dzire can be booked from almost all Maruti Suzuki outlets.
