The much anticipated Yamaha YZF R6 update has finally made its global debut at AIMExpo Orlando, Florida. The bike receives major cosmetic updates, borrowing design from its bigger R1 sibling. However, the basic engine and chassis configuration remains unchanged.

The outgoing R6 is a top seller in its segment and thus the new bike has a lot to live up to. Design wise, the bike looks gorgeous, taking inspiration from both the R1 and YZR-M1 (MotoGP bike). Its front gets signature mini-headlamps, integrated indicators and LED DRLS on what is a sharper looking fairing.

Yamaha claims that this is the most aerodynamic their R6 has ever been.

The bike’s rear sports a very familiar design, fit with sharp (& new) pillion seats, long exhaust can and large taillights. Its rear subframe is now 20mm narrower so that the rider can place his legs closer to the fuel tank, improving aerodynamics. Other changes include a better sculpted fuel tank and a very informative analogue-digital instrument console

Powering the new Yamaha YZF R6 is a 599cc, quad-cylinder unit, mated to a 6-speed transmission.  Details on its performance figures are not available yet.

The new Yamaha YZF-R6 can also be fitted with quickshifter system (upshift only) among others, as part of the manufacturer’s genuine accessory package.
