Suzuki will debut their next generation Wagon R and WagonR StingRay in Japan this year. Both the cars receive evolutionary design changes while still maintaining their tall boy stance.
In India, the Maruti Wagon R will also receive similar updates by late 2017 or early 2018. It had been a top seller for the manufacturer for many years but increase in competition and lack of any major update since 2010 dwindled the car’s good numbers.

2017 Maruti Wagon R, StingRay Exterior, Interior
Unlike Hyundai’s next-gen Santro, Maruti will not drop the popular tall stance of the Wagon R. Instead its design details have been replaced by stubby and quirky ones. Its front fascia gets restyled bumper, large air dam, new grilles, short bonnet and new headlamps. Similar changes are present on the Stingray as well but they are visually different from the standard WagonR.
On it sides, both cars gets a single character line that runs through its length while their rear gets new taillights and a large bootlid, mounted with spoiler.
It must be noted that the Indian-spec cars might be visually different, with longer bonnet and different rear.
Though interior has not been revealed yet, we expect it to be minimal but with more features than the existing model. Safety will also be improved with Dual airbags expected as standard.
2017 Maruti Wagon R, StingRay Engine
Powering both the cars will be a 660cc, 3-cylinder DOHC mill that produces 51hp of power and 61Nm of torque with the mild hybrid system, in Japan. In India, the manufacturer’s staple 1.0-litre K-Series Petrol should do the job.
|Transmission||5-speed MT / AMT|
With Maruti extending their mild hybrid system to more cars, we might also see the technology being implemented on the 2017 WagonR as well. This will improve mileage by a fair amount.
2017 Maruti Wagon R, StingRay launch and price
We expect the new Wagon R and StingRay to launched in India by November 2017 as the existing cars won’t be able to pass Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program (BNVSAP) that are going to be implemented on October this year.
|Wagon R Price||Rs. 4.25 lakhs|
|StingRay price||Rs. 4.5 lakhs|
