2019 Ducati Panigale V4 (226hp Speciale) revealed
Ducati has revealed their all-new V4 superbike at the 2017 EICMA. This is the first mass-produced Ducati motorcycle to be equipped with a 4-cylinder engine, and it is closely derived from their Desmosedici of the MotoGP. A special ‘final edition’ of the last V-Twin flagship Panigale was launched at the Laguna Seca earlier this year.
The new bike will adopt many of Ducati MotoGP technology which the manufacturer has developed over the years. It has been in testing for some time now and now that we have a proper look, we are in complete awe.
Ducati claims that this is probably the most advanced motorcycle that they have ever built and in their own words
a symphony of performance and emotions that’s 100% Italian
2018 Ducati Panigale V4 Superbike – Design and features
Instead of cloning their MotoGP bike, the new Ducati V4 will adopt evolutionary design changes from the Panigale. This is pretty subtle considering how drastic a change the new engine is. The bike was adjudged the ‘most beautiful’ at Milan.
Even with all the noticeable differences, all the Italian lines look familiar and the striking red colour looks just as home as in the previous version. What’s under the fairing a different story altogether.
Ducati moves away from it frameless architecture, though lightly. The shortened, semi-monocoque chassis is attached to both cylinder heads and to the headstock, with the airbox housed inside it.
The Ducati Panigale V4 gets an all-new 5-inch display that displays a host of new information. Other features that are present on the base variant include Ducati Power Launch (DPL), Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) up/down EVO, full-LED headlight with Daytime Running Light (DRL), Sachs steering damper, quick control selection, automatic switch-off of turn signals.
The Panigale V4 S shifts to more premium Ohlin dampers and damping systems, while the top-spec V4 Speciale comes with ‘Speciale’ colour scheme, carbon fiber parts and a full racing titanium Ducati Performance by Akrapovič.
2018 Ducati Panigale V4 Superbike Engine and specification
Ducati teased their new V4 engine well before the motorcycle officially released. This just goes on to show how important it is to Ducati’s future. The 1,103 cc V4 is capable of producing 157.5 kW (214 hp) @ 13,000 rpm and 124.0 Nm (91.5 lb-ft) @ 10,000 rpm in stock. An optional full titanium exhaust system (standard in Speciale) from Akrapovic wit racing kit is capable of increasing this numbers to 168.5 kW (226 hp) @ 13.750 rpm and 133.6 Nm (98.5 lb-ft) @ 11.000 rpm.
Suspension duties are carried out by Showa on base trim while higher variants get Ohlins. Braking is by Brembo blocks.
