2019 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT

KTM launched the Super Duke GT in 2015 and for one reason or another it just went straight to our hearts. The bike was as bonkers as its ‘R’ version but had enough maturity to be proper gentleman on the road. Barring minor faults, it was everything that anyone would expect from a proper sports tourer.

In 2016, the KTM Super Duke R, along with most of its Duke and Adventure siblings, got a major design overhaul. It is only natural that the Super Duke GT gain similar changes, and now, a test mule of the refreshed motorcycle has been spotted in Spain.

The 2019 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT gets predictable design changes and is essentially a tourer version of the current KTM 1290 Super Duke. They even share the same underpinnings.

The bike’s design is aggressive but it might not be for everyone’s cup of tea. The sharp and minimal front LED headlamp has been retained but its lowers have been raised to provide a beak like appearance. This is very typical of touring and adventure bikes but doesn’t seem to fit in perfectly (although, this feeling might change once the real bikes come out). Unlike the previous test mule, KTM seems to have perfected the windscreen too. It is bigger than before and should provide adequate wind protection, apart from improving aerodynamics.

Sides look good and the fuel tank seems to be a 20 liter unit. When a production model finally make it to the limelight, it will be beefed up with large panniers and carriage slots. The all-digital instrument console is new and shows a wide range of information, allied with KTM’s MyRide function.

The Super Duke GT had no dearth of features in its last generation but that doesn’t mean there’s no room for improvement. The bike’s quickshifter should come with auto blipper as standard, and ride modes will be incorporated. However, the ‘track mode’ on the Super Duke R will be replaced with ‘Touring mode’ on the GT.

Suspension duties are done by WP semi-active front USD fork and a WP semi-active rear monoshock. Brakes include 320 mm dual front discs with radial calliper and a single rear 240 mm disc.

Power comes from a ‎1,301 cc (79.4 cu in), 8-valve, 75° V-twin mill. The current generation model produces 173 PS of power, and 114 Nm of torque, but the tuning could be different on the new model.
