2018 Audi A8 – Exterior and Interior design
If you’ve seen the new Audi A4, you will find that the upcoming A8 looks very much like a bigger version of that. The car is clearly inspired from the 2014 Prologue concept, though many of curves are toned down. It will be based on an all-new platform.
Up front Audi’s signature single frame grille can be seen, which is now much wider. Headlamps and tailamps are sleeker units, similar to ones seen on the new A4. HD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser lighting is optional.
The most premium S8 models will get larger wheels, sportier exhaust pipes and other subtle changes to set it apart as a sports model.
On the inside, premium material and good amount of space are provided. Being based on the prologue concept, it looks minimal but has efficient (& beautiful) execution.
Overall the new A8 looks great but how it stacks up to competition including the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-series is a discussion worthy of another day.
2018 Audi A8- Semi-Autonomous driving, new features.
Being their top class sedan, the new Audi A8 will come with some very exciting features. Perhaps the best of which is the new autonomous driving technology, derived from Audi’s Auto Piloted driving. Dubbed the ‘Traffic Jam Pilot’, it can accelerate, brake and steer (but not change lanes) for up to 60 kmph. The technology will be developed even after the car is launched and regular updates are to be expected.
Another new feature is the 10.1-inch ‘MMI touch response’ infotainment system, which uses a series of dash mounted LED touch screens, instead of conventional buttons and knobs to accept user feedback. Audi’s virtual cockpit,Bang & Olufsen speaker system and a secondary display on the center console are also provided.
The rear is as spacious as you would expect from a German flagship. There’s two removable phablet sized displays behind the headrest and one fitted on the armrest. The latter can be used to control volume, climate control and lighting, and can even be used to make calls.
2018 Audi A8- Engine, transmission, AWD
The Audi A8 2018 should get engine options including a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 and an updated 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. European models should also come with a new 400hp V8 diesel and 577-hp W-12.
An eight speed automatic will take care of transmission duties, while the Quattro All-wheel drive system will be made available as standard. For smoother on-off transition and to save fuel, Mild Hybrid technology has been made standard across the variants.
