This might be hard to believe but the first Ducati Monster came out almost 25 years ago. It was the Monster 900 which kick-started the Italian manufacturer’s successful streetfighter portfolio and as a homage to the iconic motorcycle, Ducati has updated the 2018 Monster 821 with the former’s design.
Here are some details of the bike:
2018 Ducati Monster 821 design- Best one yet
The new Monster 821 has a mix of classic and modern attributes. The motorcycle gets a streamlined design like the Monster 1200, and even adopts some its features. However, the redesigned fuel tank and tail section are similar to the original 1992 version. Ducati has even thrown in the fan-favorite ‘Ducati Yellow’ colour, which was a best seller on the Monster 900. The bike is also available in signature ‘Ducati Red’ and ‘Dark Stealth’ colours.
The 2018 Ducati Monster 821 gains a new twin, racing exhaust system, which is identical to that on the 1200. There is also a new LED headlamp with DRLs and a very informative TFT colour instrument cluster. The latter comes with fuel and gear indicators for the first time.
The motorcycle is built upon a tubular steel trellis frame. Suspension duties are carried out by 43 mm USD fork at front and an adjustable monoshock at rear. Braking power is provided by 320 mm dual discs with Brembo M4-32 Monobloc radial 4-piston calipers at the front and single 245 mm disc with a two-piston caliper at rear. Its 17” alloy wheels are shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres.
Some of the bike’s standard features include three ride modes, Ducati safety pack with Bosch ABS and traction control, slipper clutch and a pillion seat cowl. Ducati’s Quick Shift and Multimedia Systems, anti-theft system, along with host of cosmetic additions are provided as optional.
2018 Ducati Monster 821 engine and transmission
Power comes from an 821cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected Testastretta L-twin engine. It produces 110.5 PS of power at 9,250 rpm; and 86 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm. These numbers are slightly lower than the outgoing bike. Transmission duties are done by a 6-speed gearbox.
2018 Ducati Monster 821 price, release date
The new Monster 821 is likely to cost a bit more than the current model, especially due its connection with the original Monster 900. It will debut along with four other models at the EICMA, Milan and could reach dealerships by early 2018.
