New Passport- Early Report

Honda could revive the ‘Passport’ brand for a new, yet to be seen SUV. Its name was filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office with mention and claim for ‘previous association’.

While manufacturer’s filing patents is not something new, what makes this special is that Honda has plans to launch a premium 5-seater SUV, placed between their CR-V and Pilot. It is also widely reported that the new car will be a shorter wheelbase version of the Pilot.

Update: The 2019 Honda Passport will debut at the 2018 LA Auto Show. More information will updated soon

According to Mr. Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. & General Manager, Honda Division:

“The new Passport is a more personal, powerful and off-road-capable SUV that hits the sweet spot between daily driving comfort and weekend off-road, all-weather adventure capability”

With Honda reluctant to divulge any information, we can think of a number of possibilities for the new name, including a concept, new trim level and possibly even a new car altogether. Though a re-branded Honda UR-V or Avencier  could also carry the ‘Passport’ tag, it is more likely that Honda will go with a shorter wheelbase Pilot, as it is a proven car in the states.

Most of the new car’s design will be adopted from the Pilot but the SUV is likely to get certain tweaks here and there. The sides and shoulder line will be restyled to accommodate the shorter length.  Front Fascia and rear will not get many changes.

Interior might be slightly different from the premium Pilot in order to keep its prices down.  Most of its features will come from the CR-V.

The 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 petrol engine producing 280 hp and 262 lb-ft (355 Nm) of torque is sure to make it to the line-up. Smaller variants could get a frugal V4 unit.
