The Jeep Cherokee received a facelift in 2016 and until recently we thought the same model will continue for 2018. However, they have now come out with a completely different model for 2019.

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee is present at the ongoing NAIAS 2018, Detroit.

Here are more details:

Transmission 9-speed Auto

2019 Jeep Cherokee Design

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee will receive updates to its front and rear

The new Cherokee drops the controversial slim-line headlamps for something similar to that of the Compass SUV. The two part headlamp of the existing generation has now merged and its LED DRLs seem to be positioned higher up. It also gets a smaller 7-slot vertical grille which is flatter then before.

The new Cherokee’s sides seem to be untouched but the rear gains new taillamp graphics, re-positioned number plate holder and drak grey bumper. The new number plate position also aid to fill up unnecessary blank space in the rear.

Overall the set-up is more in-tune with the Jeep’s current models and its design is unlikely to get polarizing opinions like the last model.

The SUV’s interior is mostly unchanged but ergonomics have improved. It gets 7-inch and 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. The metal trims have been slightly revised and so is the base area surrounding the shifter. So there’s more phone storage in the center console now.

The rarely used storage bar on the driver’s side has been removed. This, along with narrowing down the gap between trim pieces and bodywork has opened up an extra 85 millimeters (3.3 inches) of width inside the cabin. Jeep claims that the boot can now accommodate two pairs of gold clubs with the help of an improved capacity 28.0 cubic feet.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Engine, Hybrid and Transmission

The new Jeep Cherokee continues with its 2.4-liter inline-four and 3.2-liter V6 engine. They are capable of producing 180 hp and 170 pound-feet of torque, and 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque respectively. Both mills are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which is claimed to have been tweaked for better drivability.

If you want something with a higher EPA-rating (but lesser towing capacity), Jeep has added an all-new turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that’s capable of producing 270 hp and 295 lb-ft.

The manufacturer has been very vocal on their push for hybrid SUVs but the updated Cherokee does not receive this technology. Ironically, Jeep has chosen not to provide the 48-volt mild-hybrid system that compliments the 2.0-liter mill of the wrangler on the new Cherokee.

2019 Jeep Cherokee price and release date

The new Cherokee was revealed at the 2018 Detroit Auto show and will go on sale in the U.S as a 2019 model. Its UK debut will also happen at about the same time.
