The Ford Ranger is finally making a comeback to US soil after a long seven year hiatus. The truck will be produced almost entirely in Michigan but its design will be similar to the globally available model. It has been revealed at the ongoing Detroit motor show.
Its Raptor variant will officially debut at Bangkok, Thailand on February 7, 2018. The same car will begin to reach dealerships in Australia and Southeast Asian markets by mid-2018 as an upgrade to the existing T6 Raptor.
2019 Ford Ranger & Ranger Raptor (US) – Release date
The new Ford Ranger’s production will begin late this year and the truck will reach dealerships as a 2019 model.
Since Ford already has the F-150 Raptor, it is unlikely that the Ranger Raptor will come to US soil.
|Starting price in USA||$25,000|
2019 Ford Ranger – Design and specification
The new Ford Ranger will compete head-on with the Chevy Silverado and it has a design to match. It will be available in XL, XLT, and Lariat trims with additional Chrome and Sport appearance packages.
Usually, trucks in the US will be slightly different from those available in international markets so as to cater specific demands of the market. This is the case for the Ranger as well, and it comes with a different front bumper when compared to the model coming to Thailand . However, since Ford has a ‘one design’ philosophy in place, the differences are not that drastic.
Like the F-150, the Ranger comes with many customisation options, as well as variant specific exterior changes. Its headlights are sleek projector units with LED DRLs lining it. The truck is based on a body-on-frame architecture developed in Australia for the Everest.
If you are not familiar with the Everest, there were reports that the 2020 Ford Bronco will be based heavily upon it: 2020 Ford Bronco coming soon
The Ranger is offered in SuperCab (half rear doors) and SuperCrew (four doors) configurations. Interior looks good and comes with a standard touch screen infotainment system (optional 8″ screen), digital instrument console and large vertical slat air-con vents. Optional features include LTE wi-fi hotspot, 115-volt power outlets, a B&O Play sound system, among others.
In most markets outside US, the Ford Ranger comes powered by a pair of diesel engines, namely a 158hp 2.2L in-line 4 cylinder and a 197 hp 3.2L in-line 5 cylinder. The latter is likely to be a part of the US line-up eventually.
In its home market, the Ford Ranger gets a 2.3-liter inline-four engine, coupled to a ten-speed automatic transmission. We don’t know the numbers yet but the same mill produces 310hp on the Mustang.
Both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models are available.
2019 Ford Ranger price and competition
