The next generation Ford Explorer will come in a sporty ST trim. This isn’t a big surprise as the Blue Oval had already made clear of their intentions of ST-badged SUVs with the recently revealed Edge ST. We love that model and hopefully, the feeling will be mutual with the Explorer as well.
The 2019 Ford Explorer in itself receives a number of exterior and interior enhancements. The SUV is based on a new flexible CD6 platform and is available in either rear or all-wheel drive option. Its ST variant will likely come with a sportier body kit and the signature blue colour.
The spied model was camouflaged throughout but there were some significant differences that made it stand out. For starters, this SUV had a more aggressive stance and sportier aura when compared to other Explorer test mules. It had larger wheels and performance oriented tyres, as well as a different design for its taillights.
The standard Ford Explorer should come with a number of engine options including 2.3-liter four cylinder and a 3.3-liter V6. However, the range-topping ST variant requires an undeniably better mill that delivers better figures than the current ‘Sport’ model’s 365 hp.
The Ford Explorer ST will thus, most likely come with a 3.0-liter V6 producing more than 400hp of power and 400 lb-ft of torque.
2019 Ford Explorer ST price and release date
Ford is expected to reveal both the standard and ST Explorer next year. The ST will be priced atop the line-up, possibly near the $52,000 range.
