Yamaha R15 V3 launched in India
The Yamaha R15 V3 has been launched in India for a price starting from Rs. 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike is in its 3rd generation and has been completely restyled to be in-tune with Yamaha’s latest design philosophy. It is currently the most powerful and tech-loaded 150cc motorcycle in India. Infact, purely based on features, this entry-level sportsbike could give some of the bigger motorcycles in its vicinity a run for their money.
The Yamaha R15 is immensely popular in India. It was launched in 2008 and got a sporty refresh in 2012-as the R15 V2. Now, with the advent of the V3, the latter will be phased out. The refreshed first generation model which is now known as the R15-S might be in the market for some more time.
Unlike Honda, Yamaha is very prompt in bringing new bikes to India. The twin headlamp version of the Honda CBR150R has been around for quite some time now but it is still unavailable in our country. Even now the Japanese manufacturer refuses to give a clear launch plan and that too for a bike that is capable of draining Yamaha’s sales in the segment.
Yamaha R15 V3- Design and Specs
The bike has been redesigned completely and arguably, looks better than before. Its front fascia gets twin LED headlamps with a large central air vent. Sides are sharp and the pillion area is chunkier. Yamaha has lowered the pillion and made it wider so as to address shortcomings of the outgoing version.
It is available in two colours: Racing blue and Thunder grey
The R15 V3 gets an all-digital instrument console that comes with additional features like gear indicator and rev-limiter indicator. There’s also a USB charging port.
Powering the bike is a new 155 cc, liquid-cooled engine that produces 19 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 15 Nm of peak torque at 8500 rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox aided by assist and slip clutch. Variable Valves Actuation (VVA) is also provided.
The V3 is based on a revised Deltabox frame but has a slightly more relaxed seating position when compared to R15 V2. Standard features like front and rear disc brake, telescopic front forks and rear monoshock are provided. In order to keep prices down, ABS is not provided and MRF tyres are provided instead of IRC.
