Rajiv Bajaj: New Pulsars & Avengers to rollout with BSIV (2020)
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, on an interview with Forbes has confirmed that they are planning to launch new generation of Pulsars and Avenger with the onset of BS-VI emission norms. The Indian government had earlier decided to skip BS-V and go straight to BS-VI starting 2020.
Speaking to the magazine, he said:
I think in 2020, when new emission norms come, that would be a great opportunity to go to market with a product that is not only much greener but also in a new avatar. We are working on that. In 2020, we should have an all new range of Pulsars and Avengers.
With a new decade dawning, and tighter emission (BS6) and safety norms (ABS) being enforced, this is definitely a great time to upgrade their long-standing (arguably, ageing) designs. Bajaj still has 40% of the market share which will most likely dwindle if better products are not introduced.
One of their best products- the Pulsar 220 only got skin-upgrades in 2017 when the BS-IV emission norms were enforced, and is definitely in need of an upgrade. However, as per reliable sources, the manufacturer is yet to find a worthy successor.
2020 Bajaj Pulsar & Avenger: What to Expect?
It’s hard to speculate but the Pulsar range is likely to undergo some much needed improvements. Based on popular demand, semi-faired design is likely to continue in some models and features like ABS and smartphone connectivity will be added. New models could be developed as well, while discontinuing some low performing once.
The Avenger series shouldn’t get drastic changes to it design but features will be improved.
Finally, BS-VI requires extra work done on the engine. What effect this will have on power and performance needs to be seen. Good news is that efficiency will improve while reducing carbon footprints!
More details will be updated soon!
