Fans of the Mustang will immediately realise that this is not their average GT350, in fact, this is not a GT350 at all. Meet the new 2019 Ford Mustang GT500, which like the Ford GT or the Honda NSX is a very popular name that is undergoing revival.
The car has a lot to live up to, let’s check whether it has the brawn to match the name.
2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 design- Exterior & Interior
Most recent spy shots reveal that the new GT500 will get a front fascia inspired from the current generation Mustang but in a more aggressive scale. There are redesigned grille and larger air vents to supplement the more powerful engine under the hood. At the rear, the car gets an updated diffuser while its sides get larger, newly designed 20” wheels. These are apart from the subtle aero tweaks dotted around the car.
Interior is yet to be spotted but it is expected to be slightly updated (sportier) version of the GT350. There’s a roll cage visible through the window but we don’t know what to make out of it at the moment.
2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 engine, performance
The new GT500 will get an increase in power, and lots of it. The 5.2-liter flat-plane crank (FPC) V8 is expected to produce more power than the Challenger Hellcat (707hp), possibly even close to the 750 horsepower mark. The engine will be mated to a quick-shifting dual-clutch transmission as standard, while a manual transmission will be optional.
Note: There are rumours that Ford is shifting to a Cross plank crank (CPC) engine as the FPC one with supercharger was running out of steam post 7,500 rpm. The new video also tells a similar story.
2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 price and release date
The new Shelby GT500 will be released in 2018 as a 2019 model. The car is expected to be priced $5000, above or below the $70,000 figure.
It will most probably debut in Detroit next year.
