BMW Motorrads has confirmed the launch of their upcoming G310R and G310GS on their official Twitter page. This was during an interaction with their followers.
Although a 2017 launch was more or less certain, an exact timeframe was not available till now. The BMW G310R will be launched in most countries, including home market of India in Spring 2017, which is in March to May period. However, launch of the G310GS adventure will only take place in the second half of the same year.
Going by earlier reports, the much talked about TVS Akula 310 is also likely to debut at the same time as the G310R. However both manufacturers will work as separate entities and will not share dealerships. So the upcoming BMW bikes could only be available in select few places in India, which is a let down.
Powering all three of the above bikes will be an EURO-IV compliant, 313cc water-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It produces 34bhp of power at 9500rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7500rpm in the BMW models, while paired to a 6-speed gearbox. Power and Torque figures are expected to be same if not better for the Akula, considering it is a sportsbike.
All three bikes look stunning and will surely be exciting additions to our roads. Production will take place at TVS’s plant in Hosur, Bengaluru (India). Though this will ensure competitive prices, knowing BMW, it is unlikely that they are going to be too low.
