Honda had promised to launch two new scooters in India this year. One of them, the Honda Cliq, has now been launched in the country. The Japanese manufacturer hopes to bring out the scooter in a phased manner, first launching it in Rajasthan and then extending to other markets by this festive season.
Honda has been very active in India’s scooter segment and rightfully so. Their Activa is one of the most selling two wheelers in the country and a major part of their sales is concentrated here.

New Honda Cliq design
The Honda Cliq can be seen as the UV of the scooter world and is certainly unique. It is not, however, Honda’s first experiment in the segment as they already have the Honda Navi Crossover.
The new Honda Cliq is quirky and rugged in appearance. It gets a large headlamp up front with boxy indicators on either side. The potruding design element at the front can be fitted with optional windscreen,
The scooter’s handlebar is naked and a familiar analogue instrument cluster can be seen fitted to the front panel. It can also be immediately noticed that there is lots of space to place your legs (or luggage), and the seats look long and comfortable.
Optional features: floor cover, box center, cap cover, rear grip, rear carrier and more
The underseat space is also ample and mobile charging socket is provided as standard.

New Honda Cliq engine and specification
The Honda Cliq is powered by the same 109.19cc single cylinder BS-IV engine that is seen on the Navi, and it produces 8.11PS of power at 7000rpm and 8.94Nm of torque at 5500rpm. Honda HET technology is provided for better mileage.
The scooter also comes with combi-breaking system with equalizer as standard. Its tyres are block type with deep grove to provide better grip and longer life treading through India’s tough terrain.
New Honda Cliq vs Honda Activa, Dio
India’s favourite scooter- Honda Activa come with a conventional design while it sportier cousin, the Honda Dio, is aimed at the younger generation of riders. The Honda Cliq, as per the manufacturer, looks at a different segment of Indian scooter market- The Utilitarian.
Though the scooter segment as a whole makes a living out of its Utility factor, the Cliq will hope to take this up a notch. It gets a wide footboard, long seat, good under seat storage and host of other optional equpiment. There is mobile charging port and deep-grove tyres as well.
When compared to both the Activa and Dio, the Cliq is lighter (at 102kg) and gets more space and features. However, the lower price does make it look less premium (obviously).
Engine of all three scooters are similarly spec’d and their mechanicals are also shared.
New Honda Cliq Price
The Cliq is priced starting from Rs. 42,599 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This, like the Navi, is lower than most scooters in the segment. The scooter’s aggressive pricing and features should help it to click with the Indian customers.
