If you’ve been with us earlier, you will know that Honda has plans to launch four new two wheelers in India- out of which two are scooters. If the patent records are anything to go by (though they seldom are) one of the scooters could be the Scoopy. It is currently available in Indonesia under the same name.
Honda Scoopy price, competition, launch in India
Though Honda is usually secretive about their plans for India, they are very prompt when it comes to scooters. This is because their Activa is one of the top selling 2-wheelers in the country and the segment as a whole is favourable to them. However, they have yet to test their mettle in the premium segment, and the Scoopy would be a perfect fit for the slot.
If launched, the Scoopy will compete with Yamaha’s Fascino and the Vespa, in this slow moving premium scooter segment.
|Launch in India||Q3, 2017|
|Price in India||Rs. 60,000/-|
Honda Scoopy Design
Scooter in the premium bracket tend to be more angular/round than those below them. This is something noticeable in Yamaha’s Fascino and on the Vespas, and can be seen on the Scoopy as well. However, it is different from most scooters in India as its headlamps and indicators are integrated with the front panel. This makes it unique and the simplistic design is both sporty and premium.
Overall, its design is simple and gives off a premium vibe. Only thing we can’t take seriously is its name- ‘Scoopy’.
Honda Scoopy engine, power
Powering the Indonesian spec variant is a 108.2cc, single cylinder mill producing 8.9 bhp and 9.4 Nm. For India, Honda could adopt the proven, 109.19cc carburetted BS-IV mill producing 8bhp and 9Nm on the Activa 4G. However, being a premium model, Honda is more likely to go with the 125cc mill that is on the Activa 125. Features like AHO, Combi breaks and idling stop system etc will be part of the package.
