If you have been in a car accident then you may know how dangerous they can be. After all, you may think that your car is relatively okay after a small crash, but when you start to drive and notice sounds, you may realise that there has actually been some serious damage done. If you want to try and protect yourself here, then you need to look out for the signs of serious engine damage.

Knocking

If you can hear a knocking or a thumping sound, then there is a high chance that your rod bearings have been worn out. On the flip side, it may be that they have gotten too loose. The bearings will fail soon and if you drive around with your car in this state then you may find that you end up breaking down on the road. This is the last thing that you need, so try and make sure that you get your car tested as soon as you can. This will give you the chance to get it tested so you can make sure that everything is okay. Remember if you have been in a car crash then you can hire a team of expert car accident lawyers to help you out.

Squealing

If you know that your engine is hitting a lot of high notes and you can hear some squeaking, then this is a sign that your fan belt is going. When this gets loose and it becomes worn out, you may find that the belt stops working at the same pace as it once did, and this can cause major damage to your car. If it is not that loose then you may be able to fix it yourself with a bit of work. Look in the manual for your car if you can, because when you do, you will soon find that you can take care of the repair if this is the issue.

Grinding

A grinding noise is very irritating to the ears. It also could mean that your front brakes are shaving away. This will happen every single time you hit the road. When the last part of your pad goes, you may find that the backing plate clamps onto the disc and this reduces the effectiveness of your braking. When your car is in this state it is advisable not to drive it. Try and get booked in with a mechanic as soon as you can.

Smoke

If you have a lot of clear smoke coming out of your tailpipe then this is not a major issue. If your motor is putting out black or even blue smoke, then this is a sign that your car has a major problem. You will want to get it fixed as soon as you possibly can, so you can avoid any issues in the future. If you have blue smoke, then this means that you have oil which is escaping from the engine. It is being burnt alongside the fuel. If you do a quick fix, then you will need to keep adding engine oil but other than that, you need to visit a mechanic.
