Kawasaki Ninja ZX25R- Full report [Update 2019]
When the CBR250RR turned out to be a twin cylinder, we were going to place the tombstone on our hopes of a sub-500cc quad. However, that’s when rumours started of a Kawasaki ZX-25R- a high powered quarter-liter four that was being developed for tax-sensitive markets like Indonesia. However, three years have passed since these rumour and no new development came up, that is, until now!
An Indonesian website- Gridoto, has claimed that the ZX25R is ready in its prototype form at the PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia’s factory. But truth is, we still don’t have much on the bike and it may turn out to be a damp squib like the new Honda (Honda CBR250RR was reported to be a 4 cylinder initially). But as always, speculations are over the roof.
With the existing smaller Ninjas looking very much like ZX range, it will be harder for Kawasaki to distinguish the two models in markets like India .
Kawasaki Ninja ZX25R- Design, Specs, Features
The Kawasaki ZX-25R will take extensive inspiration from the bigger ZX siblings. Expect sharper front fascia, new LED headlamps, different side fairing, and overall better features when compared to the Ninja 250. Bodywork will be different too and Kawasaki might add a few racing-colours.
The new Ninja could be based on the same chassis as the Ninja 300. Aluminium Swingarm, adjustable monoshock, USD forks and ABS will be part of the equipment list.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX25R- Engine, Transmission
The Ninja ZX-25R is heard to be powered by a 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC mill producing 45 HP and 33 Nm. Transmission duties will be done by a 6-speed unit.
Due to tax exemptions for motorcycles lesser than 250cc in markets like Indonesia, manufacturers are looking for better ways to improve the segment. For a company that built something as ‘outrageous’ as the H2 twins, a four cylinder 250cc doesn’t look all that difficult. But it will be interesting to see how Kawasaki keeps the weight down.
|Engine||4 cylinder, DOHC, Liquid cooled|
|Power||45 HP @ 12,000 RPM|
|Torque||33 Nm @ 9000 RPM|
Kawasaki Ninja ZX25R- Launch in India
Kawasaki ZX-25R is expected be launched in Indonesian market by late 2020 or early 2021. Since India already has the Ninja 400, it is unlikely that the ZX-25R will come here.

Kawasaki Ninja ZX25R- Price in India
