Kawasaki India has confirmed that their recently launched Z250 streetfighter would be getting ASC or Slipper clutch by 2015. In addition, they could also provide ABS to this variant. It is also heard that KTM is planning to introduce slipper clutch to their RC line-up.
Assist Slipper Clutch or ASC is an addition provided in performance oriented motorcycles which prevents the rear wheels from locking up during downshifts. It also prevents the over-revving of the engine in such cases.Prevention of loss of traction and slipping, being the main advantages.
In India , The Kawasaki Ninja 300 provides ASC as standard . However even at the hefty price of Rs 2.99 lakhs INR (ex-showroom) , The Z250 doesn’t provide either ABS or ASC.This gives the bike a huge blow against the KTM Duke 390 & the RC390. With this new move , Kawasaki hopes to move up a notch on the desirability factor . ABS could be added on to other bikes such as the Ninja 300 later on.However, the whole purpose of these additions will be in vain , If Kawasaki plans to increase their prices.
Coming to the KTMs , The RC390 provides all or if not more luxuries for a sportsbike that costs just above the 2.05 lakh range ( ex-showroom) . This means that the desirability factor for such a bike is unbelievably high , which is reflected in its sales.Though KTM RC390 is available with ABS as standard, ASC is still not provided. KTM could introduce ASC in their 2015 variant and if such is the case , will most probably align this move with taking off of the introductory prices of their RC motorcycles. The KTM RC200 may not get the ASC feature.
Though the price increase for the KTM RC390 can easily be neglected (being a steal for the current prices) , the same cannot be said for the Kawasaki Z250.Kawasaki should plan their next move really carefully if they need to have any success with the Z250.
