Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that they will bring two interesting concepts to the 2018 Auto Expo. Called Future S and e-Survivor, these concepts will usher the manufacturer’s future Indian portfolio, particularly the ones coming in the next decade.
Maruti Suzuki Future S
Maruti Suzuki has had a firm grip of the compact and entry-level segments of India for close to two decade now. Though their sales are as glorious as ever, some of their models are beginning to show signs of age. The Future S, as its name suggests, is a car for the future and will showcase the design direction that the manufacturer will pursue for their upcoming compact cars.
This design is developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki and seems to have taken inputs from other cars in their portfolio. A teaser of it silhouette indicate that the concept will come with unique LED headlamps and a curvy body. Rightfully, the Future S is more than 200mm shorter than the Vitara Brezza.
It’s not clear whether the models will spawn a stand-alone model in the future.
Maruti Suzuki has been very vocal about their plans to bring an EV to Indian market by 2020. The e-Survivor can be seen as an early prototype, based on Suzuki’s F.A.C.E philosophy (Four-Wheel Drive, Autonomous, Connected & Electric). The concept was earlier showcased in Japan.
The technology and design used on this concept is a bit spartan at the moment. However, the manufacturer’s intention of a ‘futuristic and connected’ compact electric vehicle is very evident.
Maruti plans to localize production of their proposed 2020 EV to keep costs down. Hopefully, the segment will have matured enough by then to be accepted by the masses.
