Mercedes has confirmed that they will stop production of the G500 4×4² by end of this month. This isn’t much of a surprise as a new model is under development and is scheduled to go on sale next year.
The G500 4×4² is one of the most expensive Mercedes available in the market now. The SUV costs whooping €231,693(or $274,544) and though it is billed as a series production model, not many have graced the roads. It was launched as an even more insane follow-up to the 6×6 G-Wagon, and is possibly the most capable G-Class off-roader ever.
The G500 4×4² is characterised primarily by its tall stance. It has a ground clearance of 450 millimeters and an amphibious fording depth of one meter. This makes treading almost any terrain an ease. The SUV’s body seems to float above its large 22-inch alloy wheels that are shod in chunky 325/55 R22 tires. The track width of its portal axles are 299mm more than the regular model.
The SUV comes with a very powerful 4.0-liter V8 engine with 422 horsepower. The car does however weigh a whopping 3,021 kilograms, which somewhat dents its performance.
