How often do you see an outrageous concepts like the 9Cento go in to production? When revealed at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza earlier this year, the BMW 9Cento was thought by many as just another showcase, just like the Renault Trezor which won accolades in the previous edition of the show. However, spy shots have now come up of a near-production version of the concept testing on European roads.
Production BMW 9Cento- What is it?
Sports-Tourers are all in the vogue right now and most manufacturers try to spread their time equally across both halves of the name. With the 9Cento though, BMW has clearly spent a few more on the former aspect. Think of it as an offspring of the BMW S1000 XR and the S1000RR, with a smaller engine and agile performance.
BMW F 850 GT?
Many reports speculate that the production 9Cento could be called F 850 GT, sourcing its engine from the 850 GS’ 853cc, parallel twin. Features like dual front disc brakes, single rear disk, lower travel suspension, comfortable seating, long windscreen and rear mounted luggage panniers are seen on the new spy shots.
Does it look good?
If you liked the 9Cesto, you will love its production model. The latter has given up the awful and impractical pillion area for a more conventional set-up, but almost everything else is unchanged. The exhaust looks a bit too chunky for my taste.
The production 9Cesto does look good and should be an exciting addition to segment.
We are not sure on the date but the spy shot shows a near-production motorcycle which could most likely debut in Europe early next year. US release might take some time.
