Audi has finally revealed their coupe SUV- The Q8 through a series of new images. The car will be built at Bratislava, Slovakia and will share many of its technology and interior with the A8. It will go on sale in Europe later this year.
The Q8 is a completely new car and is entering the ‘Q’ line-up as a flagship. Obviously, it does have many things distinguishing it from the slightly larger Q7.
Design wise, the new Q8 is a toned-down version of its concept which is shown in the second part of this article. Its headlamps are wider, grille area smoother, air dams less edgier, and the front fascia as a whole not as in-your-face as the concept. However, the grey colour around its grille doesn’t go well with the flashy orange and seems to me like an unshaven face.
Coupe-SUVs don’t usually disappoint when it comes to the profile and neither does the Q8. It has smooth transitions, gorgeous slanting roofline and large 22″ (optional) alloy wheels that fill out the wheel arches nicely. Its rear impresses with end-to-end LED tailights and aggressive diffuser and looks much better than the concept.
Like the recently revealed A7, the Q8 takes a lot from the A8’s interior. The most prominent of which are the two central screens measuring 10.1-inch and 8.1-inch at top and bottom respectively. Audi’s virtual cockpit instrument console is also provided.
2019 Audi A7 Sportsback (just revealed)
Unlike the Q7, the new Audi Q8 is a strict 5-seater. Its slanting roofline means that there’s slightly lesser headroom (reduced by 40mm) and the boot space, while still impressive, is also lesser than that of the Q7. However, Audi does say that the Q8’s cabin is superior to both its direct competitors.
2019 Audi Q8 engine and specs
Initially the Q8 will get a 3.0 liter 340hp petrol in 55 TFSI guise and a 286 hp V6 diesel in 50 TDI trim. They come mated to an eight-speed and seven-speed S tronic transmissions respectively. There will be a 230hp 3.0-litre diesel V6 as well but it will only be available after several months of the car going on sale.
|0-62 mph time||6.3 sec|
|Top speed||230 kph (143 mph)|
The V6 diesel mill comes with a mild hybrid technology which improves fuel consumption by up to 0.7 liters per 100 kilometers. This achieved by enhanced use of electric power at low speeds as well as harnessing energy during deceleration (up to 14 kw).
2019 Audi Q8 Release date and price
The new Q8 will go on sale in Germany by latter half of this year and will reach other European markets by the first quarter of 2019. Price is expected to start from £60,000 in the UK.
The car will hit US dealerships in the first half of 2019 as well.

The Audi Q8 concepts and spy shots
The 2018 Audi Sport concept made debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Since then, Audi went going all-out creating a production version of the impressive concept. We’ve already seen a number teasers and spy images but some good folks from Spain have now clicked an camouflaged test mule. This was to be expected as the SUV is nearing its official release date.
Here are more details of the concept:
Audi Q8 Sport (Concept) Exterior
Audi’s new Q8 and Q8 sport concepts will be the most luxurious in the ‘Q’ family. This particular Q8 Sport version is a definite eye turner, especially with that new front fascia.
Audi has completely restyled the Q8’s front (from existing cars) to give it a futuristic design. The signature large grille can be seen along with sporty headlamps with digital Matrix laser technology and imposing air intakes. Sides are typically Audi, and gets large wheels, wide wheel arches and doors that open via touch sensors.
At the rear, the new Audi Q sport gets a very distinctive LED strip that runs throughout its length, that acts as both tail and brake lights. The Audi logo is positioned below it and a peculiarly shaped roof spoiler can also be seen.
Nearing production, the car has been toned down slightly. It takes some inspiration from Lamborghini’s new Urus SUV and they even share the same platform. The gaping grille, large air vents and sleek headlights will be retained upon entering production, and so will the angular rear and uber cool tailights.
Audi Q8 Sport (concept) Interior
The interior gets a dual tone shade and is built up in very premium materials. The seats are unique (made with Nappa and Nubuk leather), and High gloss carbon and aluminium highlights the doors and other panels.
The car’s center console is designed to look like the stern of a boat, and a ‘black panel’ display highlights the dashboard. Audi Virtual cockpit controls all kinds of information about the car.
Entering production, the car will have an interior very similar to the new A8. Most features including the MMI infotainment system, dual touch panels and of course, the Virtual Cockpit will be carried over.
