Hyundai i20 N Spied | Changes, Release & Engine

Hyundai i20 N has been spied for the first time, ending years of speculation on whether the supermini would actually be made. The spy pictures don’t paint anything too dramatic though, and for the most part, this one looks like the standard i20.

The i20 N was spied at the Nürburgring, where the manufacturer has its European technical center. This should send a clear message to competitors like Volkswagen Polo GTI and the Ford Fiesta ST on what’s to come!

Hyundai i20 N – When will it release?

Hyundai usually takes their time with ‘N’ cars and the car spied here seems to be an early prototype. So the actual production model might be a few years away.

The current generation i20 got a facelift recently and is only expected to continue till 2021. There is no point in bringing an N model now and upgrade it withing two years. So the first performance i20 might actually be part of the car’s third generation.

Both the cars have the same front fascia but this will change once the i20 N nears production. From the sides, we can notice that the car is visibly lower, courtesy of a stiffer suspension setup. Wheels are larger too and is tucked neatly between wider wheel arches.

Rear doesn’t seem to be much different either. What gives it ways is the shoddy cut-out to accommodate the car’s bigger (twin) exhaust set-up.

Engine & Power

The Hyundai i20N needs to have more power in order to visibly distinguish it from existing competition. That’s where the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine T-GDI engine comes in. It can produce 174 horsepower in its standard form but is capable of much higher- like 201hp in the Kia Ceed GT!

Hyundai should have no qualms of fitting this one on the i20.
